Reigning WorldSSP Champion Randy Krummenacher takes part in a test day for Barni Racing Team at Misano

Randy Krummenacher (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) became the latest rider from within WorldSBK to get back on track as he completed a day-long test for Barni Racing Team at Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”. Krummenacher stood in for Leon Camier, the team’s rider in MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, due to international travel restrictions in place. The Swiss rider was joined on track by Michele Pirro and Samuele Cavalieri.

The reason for the test was for the team to evaluate working with social distancing in place as well as with personal protective equipment for both mechanics and riders. The test also gave the team the chance to try out some new parts on the Ducati Panigale V4 R machine as Krummenacher completed 60 laps during the day; Krummenacher posting a best time of 1’35.494. Krummenacher’s best time during the test day was less than a second away from the pole time from the 2019 round.

Reigning WorldSSP Champion Krummenacher said: “The chance to get back on track after a long stop trying out the Ducati Panigale V4 R Superbike was great. It's a shame that the day flew away, I was immediately comfortable on the bike and with the team, we were able to complete the work programme. I have to thank Marco Barnabo (Team Principal – Barni Racing Team) for giving me this opportunity and Andrea Quadranti from MV Augusta who let me ride a Superbike.”

Part of the reason for the test was to see how the team could work with social distancing and personal protective equipment such as separator walls between different areas of the pit garage. Barnabo said: “Getting back on track with three riders was challenging to organize after the emergency, but the whole team wanted to restart and come back to work. I am convinced that, from a safety point of view, managing a race weekend will be easier than a test. Krummenacher surprised me because although he had never seen the bike he was consistent and fast, but above all, he did some tests that will allow us to start from a good base for Leon's return at the end of June. We had some things to try and everything went smoothly.”
